This week I showcase a few
favorite restaurants for that
something special to take place
in the holiday season
or in the new year!
178 Townsend Street
San Francisco, CA 94107
One word. Amazing. Truly out of this world, this restaurant offers an integrated experience of what lies around us. With a daily forager, sommeliers, and chefs running the food to your table, explaining their latest creation, the dining experience brings with it an education, wonder, and fascination for what the world could be. The Gent and I still talk about our night there.
// Good to know: the wine menu can be shared
Una Pizza Napoletana
at Howard and 11th
San Francisco, CA 94103
I love this place. The grungy outside reflects the hardcore nature of what pizza master Anthony Mangieri does: intensely focused, handcrafted pizza right in front of you--causing anyone to reconsider what they do for a living. The first bite is always to die for because it is so spot on. I have no clue how the olive oil, sea salt, sourdough, basil, and buffalo mozzarella can taste so good, but then again, it is baked in an authentic Napolese oven and with skill and love. UPN was recently featured on the Food Networks Top Five, a show highlighting the top five restaurants in a certain category in America. UPN hailed from New York before gracing San Francisco with its presence.
// Good to know: the shop is open Wed - Sat, 5p till out of dough / there are four kinds of pizza offered all evenings with a fifth offered Saturday named after his daughter / no modifications can be made / during the Christmas season there is a sixth pizza offered - the Christmas pizza
17th and Market
San Francisco, CA 94114
Frances neighborhood restaurant couldn't be a cozier destination being tucked into the heart of a residential part of the Castro, with the classic F line ending right near its doors. The long narrow room provides an intimate setting for subtle conversations to pair well with their nuanced flavors of California sensibilities. The restaurant is named after Chef Melissa Perello’s grandmother.
// Good to know: they currently sell their well-known lumberjack cake for the holidays
